Wellington provides a challenging course of study in reading, writing, and mathematics. We strive to enable our students to build a solid foundation for academic and personal growth and to instill a strong sense of individual worth and social responsibility.
Through our enriched curriculum, skills are applied in the areas of science, social studies, Spanish, and computer science. To complete our well-rounded curriculum, art, music, library, and physical education are provided in a stimulating and productive environment.
Our policy of personalization allows students to work at their ability level. It is common for students to proceed to a higher-level text. We also have a wide range of materials and learning centers in the classroom to re-teach, enrich, and challenge the student.
We promote positive experiences in the development of interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, moral and ethical values, and responsibility. These positive experiences help guide the children toward becoming good citizens.
Independent thinking and responsibility are further encouraged through individual and cooperative learning, research, creative projects, independent reading, and daily homework. Outside the classroom, opportunities include Student Council, Safety Patrol, Service Learning, Kids Who Care and Teens in Action.
For the early adolescent who must cope simultaneously with school, home and the changing self, special teaching and attention is often required. The middle school staff at Wellington is optimistic, caring, and enthusiastic about working with this age group.
Wellington’s middle school is a departmentalized program where the students have eight instructional periods a day, the eighth period being an elective course. Our small classes allow teachers to give students individual attention, which allows the students to progress according to their abilities. Students also meet with their advisory and advisory group three times a week.
Wellington has a successful record of delivering high academic levels of performance. This can be seen in the standardized national test results and the fact that a large percentage of our graduates become eligible for The international Baccalaureate Program and other magnet programs, advanced placement in college preparatory programs, and receive recognition by local institutions of higher learning.
