Character Education
Wellington School is committed to addressing character at all grade levels. The entire staff participates in ongoing scheduled planning sessions to reflect on current practices, goals and enhancements.
Keys of Excellence
Our school has adopted a set of principles called the 8 Keys of Excellence. These principles have been integrated in many ways throughout the day which reinforce a supportive, trusting environment where each person is valued and respected. “Keys” are posted on walls and woven through lessons from literature to history to science or through stories and metaphors at morning assemblies. They have become part of the common vocabulary between teachers and students. By integrating the Keys, appropriate behaviors are focused on and have become the guiding principles to align behavior.

KIDS WHO CARE / TEENS IN ACTION
In keeping with our focus on character development, our school continues to support the American legacy of volunteerism and community service through our Wellington “Kids Who Care” and “Teens in Action” Programs.
Many worthwhile and successful endeavors have taken place throughout the years by our wonderful Wellington students. They have raised money for the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina survivors, collected food for annual canned food drives, donated food to local soup kitchens, and “adopted” less fortunate families to make their days brighter during the holidays. Some classes have visited senior communities and other classes are working on environmental projects.
We are continuing this tradition and promoting even more volunteerism this year! Upon receipt of the Kids Who Care/Teens in Action form, we will recognize our students for their helpful endeavors at the next Academic Pep Rally or in morning assemblies. In addition, we will display their form on the bulletin board in the school entranceway.
