CREATING ART LIKE A MODERN ARTIST
Students will travel back in time to the nineteenth century and find out why artists didn’t care if anybody thought their work was messy or distorted or odd or even ugly. As we create fractured faces like Picasso, dab paint on the page to create Monet-like reflections and invent a strange tropical forest like Rousseau, we will learn how each of these artists was seeing the world. People no longer cared if a picture looked exactly like the thing it was supposed to represent. What was it they were telling us? Find out for yourself as you create your own modern art.

MIDDLE SCHOOL “101”
Lockers, agendas and binders, oh my! Welcome to middle school life! This unique class offers assistance in maintaining organization, student agendas and binders, preparing for tests, and establishes one last “checkpoint” at the end of the day to make sure everything is ready to go home. Character education in the form of weekly open discussions will be taught; topics will include respect for others, appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom, getting along with peers, and conflict resolution.
Instructor: Mrs. Daniels (required for all 6th grade students)

BAND
The Wellington School Band begins its 14th season under the directorship of Mr. Turner. Students participating in band are motivated, dedicated, willing to practice outside of class time, and be prepared to learn how to read music. Band members perform at Academic Pep Rallies, community functions, middle school events, and the 8th grade graduation. The band participates in Florida Bandmasters activities and hosts winter and spring concerts.
