Here is our Second Grade classes at the St. Pete Science Center learning about Native Americans.  They are standing in the shaman's hut.  The students had a blast with a hands-on learning experience shredding skin off a hide, trying to make fire, throwing a "spear", and sharpening stones.

LEARNING ABOUT COMMUNITY HELPERS

The third grade at the Seminole campus visited Seminole Fire Rescue Station 29 as a part of their Communities Unit in Social Studies.  The students were given a tour of the station, where they got to see where the firefighters sleep, eat and play!  They were shown all the amazing equipment carried on the fire engines, including the "jaws of life"!  The students learned that firefighters must be healthy and in shape in order to carry the more than 70 pounds worth of equipment they use to fight fires and save lives each day. The highlights of the trip were when the fire fighters had to leave on a call after the students had only been there three minutes and when each student got to spray the fire hose!  It was an interesting field trip that really showed the students how important it is to work as a team to reach a common goal.  Thank you Fire Station 29!
